LEDs are lighting the way for big-wave night surf

Big-wave pro-rider Mark Visser sure has superhuman athletic skills, but no night vision. So, when he made history riding 30- to 40-foot waves in the middle of the night last month, techies gave him a hand. His surfboard was tricked with NASA LED submarine light. The lights were positioned to illuminate the waves and board in all the right places without hindering Visser's vision.
