LED lighting expected to save City of Mt. Pleasant $24,000 annually

Mt. Pleasant’s $61,000 investment into new street lighting is expected to pay for itself in just under three years.  The new lights are expected to save the city $24,000 annually.
City of Mt. Pleasant building official Brian Kench gave a presentation on the city’s new downtown LED lighting at the May 29 city commission meeting.
“Between the drop in energy cost and the savings through maintenance, we’re looking at a payback in about three years,” Kench said. “It’s huge.”
In addition they are dimmable, can be controlled with motion sensors and have a better control over light pollution.
