The U.S. DOE Municipal Solid-State Street Light Consortium recently released model guidelines for the specifications of LED streetlights for municipal installations. This document was created with the input and cooperation of a working group of Consortium members as well as LED lighting manufacturers. The MSSLC created the model to be a starting point for municipalities considering installing new, or adding to existing, LED streetlight installations. Additionally, the guidelines will be a useful tool for effective biding documents resulting in multiple qualified bids.
The model is available online on the DOE SSL website. The flexible format allows municipal users to modify values to fit local criteria and specifications.
On November 15, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. ET, the DOE will host a 90 minute live webcast which will provide an overview of the model and directions for users. The webcast will be moderated by Edward Smalley, director of the MSSLC.
