LEDs already represent the majority regarding mobile phones back lights, computer monitors and TVs. McKinsey & Co. suggests that the LED market will be valued at 59% ($160 billion), compared to only 10% in 2010. The largest market share (about ¾ of the value) will be “general lighting” for homes, offices, and outdoor illumination. Changes are and will be driven by new regulations, technical improvement, and consumers as nearly half of the worlds light bulbs are of the incandescent type.
