After darkness fell Tuesday evening, St. James Episcopal

Church leaders in Lancaster flipped a switch that brought a glow to the historic church and the street outside.

The $185,000 lighting project, which shines light from inside the church out through its stained glass windows, is the first completed portion of a $2 million capital campaign.

Light emitting diode, or LED, lights of different colors are intended to highlight the blues, reds and greens of the stained glass along North Duke and East Orange streets. Windows overlooking the churchyard to the east and the cloister courtyard to the north also were illuminated.
