Salzburg, Austria is planning the replacement of classical streetlights by LED lights for 2015. As the EU commission has forbidden the old bulbs, the government is planning to exchange over 3000 streetlights. For now Salzburg is running tests on certain streets to make sure that everything works in three years. Furthermore the town representative brings out, that over 50% of the traffic lights are running with modern LEDs. The town expects a reduction of electricity consumption up to 30% for streetlights, up to 60% for the illumination of historical monuments and buildings.
The biggest savings are estimated for Christmas
decoration and lights, which will be up to 90% lower.
