25th year for compact fluorescents bulbs, retirement approaches!
On April 17, 1985, the stick-shaped CFL was first screwed in. Originally eight inches high, expensive and filled with mercury – CFLs have improved over the years. Prices have gone down, mercury has decreased and life expectancy has increased. They have been a giant step forward in energy efficiency and green technology.
Still, CFLs have serious disposal issues and LED lights are gaining popularity (LED products are free of toxic waste). Life expectancy for the CFL's is a fraction of LED lights and they consume much more energy than LED products. So enjoy your time CFLs and know LEDs plan to enjoy your inheritance.
